“Beach Runners” These distant beings seem lonesome. Also oddly independent. I don’t know where they’re going but looking at them makes me more sure of where I’m going. The Runners are dwarfed by the landscape as we are by the immenseness of the Universe we’re in. I don’t understand why I keep painting these but I look at them a lot.

This one worked! It’s a new technique for me where I use stencil brushes to “grind” the paint into the canvas. The paint goes on in less quantity and transmits more light.

To the right is one of the nicest compliments that an artist can ever have. The owner of my painting below her comment posted it on Facebook with the words above it. I am overwhelmed. And I emailed her to make sure that the heavy heart was not permanent. It wasn’t.
“Night Flight”, 16x20”
$590
I was born in Evanston, Ill, lived in St. Louis, then graduated from Yale before I moved to Nashville after working for DuPont, Electric Boat, and as a pilot in the US Air Force. I founded Hobby Lobby International, Inc. which was an early leader in selling on the Internet, and which gave me a chance to continue my hobby of flying model airplanes.
I have painted all my life and sold my first paintings over sixty years ago. My paintings are in dozens of private collections around the United States. I sold Hobby Lobby and retired from it in 2008 and now I can spend more time painting.
I particularly like paintings that seem to generate their own light and in paintings that can suggest different moods to different viewers. I only use oil paints, not acrylics. I like the way oil colors mix.
